07/25/2007: The upcoming season
If I get a chance, after the Broncos games, when I am done modding. I may come here to rant, rave discuss the game. Or just go yippee skippee if we have just kicked major butt!
GO BRONCOS!!!
08/08/2007: NFL Ticket.
Well it took a few years, but I finally went ahead and got the NFL Ticket. So I can have 16 weeks of Bronco games on my TV. And to think all I had to do was buy a house for the Direct TV antenna to rest upon? Who woulda thought it was that easy?
Hated the cost, but I hated possibly missing any Broncos games more. So now I can simultaneously Mod while watching football to my hearts content!
09/07/2007: Post Surgery
Sitting here recovering from Hernia Surgery, gotta say I felt better. But at least I got some good meds, and in a few days will be up and running like new. I am ready for the new Broncos season to kick off. If I can make it home tomorrow, I will post my regular \"Shanny file\" and moniotr the game day thread.
Looking forward to Sunday, not knowing how our season will go, but at this point everyone is a contender!
(well except the Raiders, medicine wasn't that good!)
09/30/2007: Week 4 vs the Colts
What to say.... yuck.
Defense sucks.
I am beginning to think Peg Leg Pete can get 100 yards on us rushing.
We held in there the first half, only becuase our drives lasted long enough to keep Manning off the field. Then our offense sputtered, Manning got more chances and the D could not get a stop.
Five trips into the redzone = 5 tds for the Colts.
Culter another TD great, another INT which led to an INdy TD no so great.
We are a team in flux and it sucks. It feels almost like a wasted season. Rebuilding on the fly is still rebuilding. Only thing working in our benefit is that the rest of the AFC WEST sucks.
I support the team, rooted for them until the clock read triple zero, but after the game is over, man that leaves you exhausted and run down. ON to next week where the struggling Chargers face the struggling Broncos.
09/15/2007: Week 1 vs the Bills
Overall I hated this game.
We played poorly, plain and simple IMO.
We get 400+ yards, hold them to under 200 and need a chinese firedrill of a field goal to win. That is just crazy. The D looked good on passing down, though Marshawn Lynch looked like he was bowling us over on a number of runs.
It was nice to see Cutler able to move the ball, but the int came at a bad time. I would like to see us get over our red zone woes rather quickly.
Not a great start, but it was a good one and it got the \"W\" 1-0
09/17/2007: Week 2 vs the Raiders
Ugly ugly ugly.... we made mistakes aplenty and somehow.. someway... a timeout help save the day and get us to 2-0.
Cutler looked shaky at times, and should have been aware of where he was on the safety and got rid of the ball. The first Int was his fault and he had some passes again that his receivers had to bail him out on.
Defense still appears suspect vs the run. Nice too see the Secondary hold up. Only bad play was Bly biting hard on the pump fake for a TD.
An ugly win is still a win, but I think we need to gel and get our offense together soon. We have some heavy hitters coming up and only 3 tds so far,
One by Sapp, One by Marshall, and One by Stokley. We need better red zone production.
We show flashes of greatness and put up good numbers, but without the points it is all for naught and we will be in last minute struggles like we have the first two weeks.
09/23/2007: Week 3 vs the Jags
Well this game was like a 3 hour train wreck. You could see it coming, but you could not stop it.
The run D which was suspect, totally disintergrated.
The Jags plan was simple, run the ball at us, eat up the clock and control the game. It worked.
We shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly, and got a big "W" for it. We mismanaged the clock, the offense, and special teams.
I hope we can regroup to try an be competative vs the Colts next week. This loss just left me feeling disgusted for the way the team played out there.
We skated by two weeks bymoving the ball and only have a few points to show for it, 3rd time was not the charm.
10/07/2007: Week 5 vs the Chargers
Well this game was a flashback to the 60s.
Our worse loss home since the Chiefs beat us on 10/23/1966.
First time we loss to San Diego in back to back seasons at home since 1967-1968.
We looked putrid out there. The offense is sruggling and the defense and special teams just plain suck.
We are not going to be competative this year, it is a year of rebuilding aka A wasted season. We do not have the right mixture of players we need to gel as a team, able to make or stop the plays we need to.
I cannot recall a time where we had so many playmakers on the team and have looked so utterly inept.
11/12/2007: Week 8 vs the Packers
Ugh! What a way to lose the game. We go one a drive to tie it, to just give it up first play in OT. WHat makes it worse is I was sitting here saying, "Watch them, they will try to go deep on us first possesion.." It was in Favre's nature, and he went deep for the TD.
Champ got burned on a long Td and Bly got burned on the winning TD. Bly played off the receiver the whole game, and for some inexplicable reason, had a brain fart and decided to play up and let the man get behind him.
That was a game we let get away... the way the season is going, it is not surprising.
10/28/2007: Week 7 vs the Steelers
I have to say I was impressed the way the Broncos came out on offense and defense last game. The young front four got pressure on Big Ben.
The offense looked better and we were moving the ball, even though JAvon Walker was out again.
The D played well in the first half, even though Champ was out, but started to let it slip away in the second half. The back to back tds by Pitt was a sign to me that we still have our work cut out for us.
Special teams looked improved on returns and Jason Elam once again came through in the cluth.
So overall I was pleasantly surprised, but saw signs of much needed improvement to still be made in all areas.
11/12/2007: Week 9 vs the Lions
Well the title is misleading since we would have had to field a team to actually "VS" someone.
What we put out there was a horror show. There will be some probowlers out thewre, who owe their tickets to their performance against the Broncos.
Espn hi-lites are made from our games, and they all show us getting knocked upside the skull.
We scored near the end of the game... great.. that makes the humiliation so much less. At this point we are comical in its ineptness. Pathetic, yet comical.
Never underestimate our ability to shoot ourselves in the foot repeatedly and make our opponents look like world beaters.
11/12/2007: Week 10 vs the Chefs.
Great Googly Moogly! and YES I know I spelled CHEFS. It is from a commercial, look it up.
For the first time in 5 years we get a WIN in KC.
Mostly due to 9 secs of good game play. It was an 8-6 game thanks to a bad interceprion on our part that gave us the ball on our 2 yard line, which lead to a safety against us. GO US!
Anyway 30 seconds into the 3rd quater we got a pick, Selvin Young scores a TD. Next KC possesion, Elvis sacks Damon Huard, causes the fumble, which Nate Webster rumbles in to score.
Ball game us! Well we had to play some more, but our D did not let the Chiefs score on us. We played better on D. OK on special teams, and so0-so on offense. Cutler commited yet another INT!
HE has thrown one in every game but one, and in that game he had a fumble on the 1 yard line. A turnover free game would be nice.
Anyways it is a happy week in Broncoland. Would have been happier in Vinatieri could have kicked one of two field goals for scores and beat the Chargers last night. Denver just needs to take care of it's own. We are rebuilding, it may not look pretty, but if we can get our missing pieces of the puzzle back, we could be quite a force next season. Too bad we still in the middle of this season, having to go through these growing pains.
11/27/2007: Week 11 vs the Titans
The Broncos managed to win again in a Primetime game. Still Denver has a way of making players on the other side into an ESPN Highlight real, we did the same for Vince Young. He ran on us almost at will and got the first 300 yard passing game of his career. We did okay on special teams, Glenn Martinez returned a punt for a TD.
Denver showed signs of life and managed topull even at 500. Still dissapointed with the season, but I knew it would be a rebuilding season.
11/27/2007: Week 12 vs the Bears
It may not be December but we gae the Bears the greatest gift we could.... we gae them the game.
Never has ineptitude been proclaimed so loudly.
Yes we contained Devon Hester in the first half, but after he scored the first time, DO NOT KICK TO HIM AGAIN. There is no acceptable rationale as to why we did it. I would have rather kicked it out of bounds each time, it was not like they were rapidly moving the ball on us.
The punt block was another fiasco, the only reason ithappened was becuase of a penalty that made us rekick. Hey speaking of penalties, it was nice that the Bears could hold repeatedly, but on a fourth down play, Dre Bly is cited for illegal contact, giving the Bears a chance to tie the game, which they did... when they are out of downs, and time. It was B.S.
Hey speaking of BS!!! The catch that Graham made, that was ruled a non catch that would haveextended our drive.... Thanks refs!! You dumb a$$es! As a final thank you kick to the Nuts, I would like to thank the a$$ who blew the whistle when Grossman fumbled and Hamza Abdulla grabbed the ball and had a clear shot all the way down the field to the endzone. The ref called Grossman down by contact? WTF.. Had to use a challenge on that? He had better put a mask on when he goes to pick up hischeck, becuase he certainly robbed us.
Yes, Denver should have won the game, should have not allowed the blocked punt, should have played special teams better and should not have allowed the Bears to tie it up to send it to OT. The fact is the Refs through their own series of miscues helped the Bears win that game.
Yes, I am still ticked off about the game.
01/02/2008: End of the Season thoughts
Wow, where to begin? Going game by game, got too tiresome, since we were just finding new ways to lose games and humilate ourselves.
We got 7 wins this year: kc 2x , bills, oak, pitt, titans & vikings.
9 losses: 2 SD, jags, gb, lions, bears, oak, colts & texans.
Wow, we didn't split with SD and we only scored 6 points against them combined. We let them humiliate us, Oakland and the Lions also made us look bushleague.
We let the Green Bay game get away when we could not punch it in for a TD at the end of the 4th and were quickly dispatched in OT. We also let the Bears game get away from us in horrific fashion.
We found ways to lose on offense, defense and special teams. With all the talent we had it made it sickening to watch. This was worse than the 6-10 season under Griese. Made worse because we had the talent to be so much more better. YEs w ehad injuries and a new scheme, and all it did was add up to one of the most dissapointing seasons I have had witnessed as a Broncos fan.
So now the season is over, no playoffs for us. Once again the team will undergo radical changes. Players like Javon Walker show thier selfishness when they no longer have the sole spotlight. Brandon Marshall came on like gangbusters while Javon was injured and had a subpar season. Easy to see why he would want out. Last year we were a good fit for him, this year not so much... funny how ones outlook can change in a year.
Selving Young, Jay Cutler, Tony Sheffler and Elvis Dumerville all came on strong this year, They all come from a great draft class and give some hope for the future.
Matt Lepsis will retire, Simeon Rice and Sam Adams showed what a waste of space they can be. We missed Nalen and Hamilton on the Line while Chris Kuper and Chris Myers tried to tow the line. It led to breakdowns in the running game and allowed for major breakdowns in protection.
So goodbye to 2007 I won't mis you from a football stance, and I can only hope 2008 will have Denver pulling their Crap together to give the fans a decent team to root for on the field!
